Best Superbowl Appetizers

At Lines, we used our engineers, who made our AI picks engine, predict what appetizers will be a hit at your Super Bowl party! We analyzed Google Trends data from January 2–14, 2025 and compared it to historical search volumes from January 2024. With help from delicious recipe lists on Martha Stewart, Delish, and Bon Appétit, we used those recipe as seed data to figure out the hottest appetizers people are searching for right now for Super Bowl 2025.

The Results

Our findings revealed that Tacos are the top appetizer in the US. 25 states favored tacos this year. They showed no change in overall search volume year over year, holding steady at 368,000 searches in both January 2024 and January 2025.

Meanwhile, Buffalo Wings remain strong across the country, ranking first in 17 states, showcasing how tried-and-true classics never really go out of style on game day.

Meatballs was the third best appetizer across the US. It was favored in four states and saw a boost from 60,500 searches last January to 90,500 this year.

Potato Wedges won in Iowa, Idaho, and Oregon.

Pigs in a Blanket, which doubed from 40,500 to 90,500 searches, won in Illinois, Nevada, and Washington.

Alabam picked Chicken Tenders and was the only state to do so.

These trends offer plenty of insights for anyone planning a Super Bowl watch party. We hope this appetizer deep-dive, reported by Lines, makes your Super Bowl party a hit.

Our Methodology

We took the names of recipes from Delish, Martha Stewart, and Bon Appetite. Names were merged so that “Swedish Meatballs” became “Meatballs” and then we compared their normalized interest on Google Trends by state. The top result for a state was selected as the winner. Search volume data was obtained from SEMRush.

Critical Evaluation

  • Possible influence of media campaigns – the search volumes could be influenced by external factors not relating to the Superbowl.
  • Limited recipe list – while Delish, Matha Stewart, and Bon Appetite are authorities in recipes, they were not definitive sources in Super Bowl appetizers and we could have missed other appetizers.
  • Lack of regional recipes – because recipes were merged to head terms, regional recipes could have been missed.
