Aaron Addison Gordon was born on September 16, 1995, in San Jose, California. He was born to Shelly and Ed Gordon, alongside his siblings Drew and Elise. Aaron has basketball in his blood, as his father was a former standout basketball player at San Diego State University. Basketball thrives through the Gordons’ bloodline, with Aaron’s brother Drew being a professional basketball player, as well as his sister Elise who played for Harvard basketball. 

Gordon attended high school at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California. Following his high school career, Gordon was rated as a 5-star recruit, and listed as the #4 recruit in his class. High School Career (Archbishop Mitty)

Aaron Gordon attended Archbishop Mitty High School in San, Jose California. Gordon was a four-year varsity starter at Archbishop Mitty, leading them to two Division II state championship crowns. In Gordon’s senior year, he did carry them to the finals, but they suffered a loss in the Open Division final. In his freshman year, Gordon averaged 11.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game. In his sophomore year, Gordon averaged 16.4 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game. The following year he increased those numbers to 22.9 points, 12.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game. In his senior year, Gordon averaged 21.6 points, 15.7 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks per game.

After a stellar career at Archbishop Mitty, Gordon participated in the 2013 McDonald’s All-American game. After winning MVP of the game, the 5-Star, 4th rated recruit took his talents to the University of Arizona.

College Career (Arizona Wildcats)

In a press conference prior to the McDonald’s All-American game, Aaron Gordon publicly committed to the University of Arizona on April 2, 2013. Gordon played one season for the Wildcats. In his freshman year, Gordon averaged 12.4 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block per game. His impressive freshman campaign helped Gordan be named a top 30 finalist or the Naismith College Player of the Year. In addition, he was named All-Pac-12 First Team, Pac-12 Freshman Player of the Year, and Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. Following his one year at Arizona, Gordon declared for the 2014 NBA Draft. 

NBA Career

The Orlando Magic drafted Aaron Gordon with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft on June 26, 2014. Gordon officially inked his name with the Magic on July 2. Gordon’s NBA career did not start as planned, as he was forced to miss 32 games after playing in only 11 games. A fractured bone in his left foot against the Washington Wizards on November 15 caused Gordon to miss the extended time. Gordon made his return on January 18. A few weeks later, Gordon posted a double-double against the Milwaukee Bucks with 10 points and 12 rebounds. 

In the 2015-16 season, Aaron Gordon became a household name with his memorable matchup in the 2016 Slam Dunk Contest with Zach LaVine. LaVine ended up edging out Gordon for the crown, but it was a night every basketball fan will remember forever. In the second half of the season, Gordon set his then career-high with 22 points against the Philadelphia 76ers. In the Orlando Magic’s season finale, Gordon tied his 22 points against the Charlotte Hornets.

In the 2016-17 season, Gordon began to show that he was a force in the league. On December 14, 2016, Gordon poured in 33 points against the Los Angeles Clippers. Gordon went on to participate in his second consecutive dunk contest, this time losing in the first round. Aaron ended the year with a 32 point and 12 rebounds outing against the Detroit Pistons. In the 2017-18 season, Gordon set his career-high with 41 points against the Brooklyn Nets. The following year, the Orlando Magic re-signed Gordon. After receiving his new contract, Aaron went on to post 26 points and 16 rebounds in the 2018-29 season opener against the Miami Heat. Aaron Gordon continued to show growth in the 2019-20 season. He made an anticipated return to the 2020 Slam Dunk Contest, again earning second place. Following this, Gordon recorded his first career triple-double against the Minnesota Timberwolves with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists.
